Willy: "Did he apologize when I left this morning?" (6)

~Why would Willy be wondering about whether Biff had apologized when he was the one who lost his temper?

  1. I think that Willy is mentally gone but still sees himself in a place of authority over Biff. His memory is probably shaky so he might not actually remember what actually happened. Linda also says "that by the time [Biff] get[s] here, he's arguing, and he seems angry at [Biff]" (37). It's possible that we don't see the whole story of what happened. Willy might be seeking an apology for something else that happened in the past.

  2. Also, Judging from their other confrontations, I'm guess Biff also lost his temper that morning. Notice that Willy never apologizes, even when he squashes Linda's quiet contributions three times in a row, such as with, "Will you let me talk?" (45). And yet she defends and tries to protect him from himself and from the boys' disappointment. What makes him worth Linda's respect and love? Does he have to be " worthy" to deserve her love, or does her love have to do with her defense of him as a human being with care for his family (39).
